Best Buy Discounting Macbooks

Best Buy Discounting Macbooks

Best Buy is offering up to $150 off Macbooks and Macbook Pros. Apple almost never allows retailers to discount their products so this is a pretty good deal, especially the ultra slim Macbook Air for $1,299 and the new 13.3″ Macbook for $1,199.

Sub $500 Laptops

Sub $500 Laptops

One of the most common request I get is for recommendation on a good, cheap general purpose laptop.  This holiday season there are plenty of options in the sub $500 category.  These laptops won’t be the lightest or fastest, but they will have enough oomph for general web surfing, office applications and multimedia playback.

Current favorites: Newegg.com -  Toshiba Satellite L305-S5902 NoteBook Intel Pentium dual-core T3200(2.00GHz) 15.4″ Wide XGA 2GB Memory DDR2 800 160GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi Intel GMA 4500M – Retail – $499.99

$139.99 Blu-Ray Player on Woot

$139.99 Blu-Ray Player on Woot

Woot has a one day sale on a Memorex Blu-Ray Disc Player for $139.99.  While this a great price for a Blu-Ray player, close analysis shows that it only supports Profile 1.1, which means manually updating.  Profile 2.0 (BD-Live) supports updating over the Internet (updates are sometimes required to play newer media). I would recommend holding out for another week or two for the holiday deals where a BD-Live player is sure to surface in the sub $200 price range.
